Saturday Finals State Records

It was a busy night for breaking State records as three records fell - one being 20 years old.

Jayme Cramer of Cincinnati St. Xavier broke the State record in the Boys 100 Backstroke for the second time in one day by swimming a :48.15. Akron Firestone's Mark Gangloff shattered the Boys 100 Breaststroke record set in 1980 with a blistering :55.10. And finally, Toledo Notre Dame set a new State record in tbe Girls 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:25.69.

Finally, photos of winners from all events contested on Saturday evening are now available in the Photo Album.

State Meet's Done

The 2000 Ohio High School Championships are now completed. Cincinnati Ursuline is the Girls Division I state champion, Hawken is the Girls Division II state champion and Cincinnati St. Xavier is the Boys state champion.

A more detailed summary of Saturday's Finals plus photos of tonight's champions will be posted to swimmeet.com later this evening - probably after Midnight.

We're Ready For Saturday Finals

We're back here at the C.T. Branin Nataorium for tonight's Finals session and everything appears ready to go.

Everyone anticipates the Boys 100 Breaststroke state record to fall tonight as Mark Gangloff makes one last attempt at breaking the 20 year old record of :55.44 set by Glen Mills in 1980. Should be exciting.

With tonight's Finals scheduled to start at 6:00 PM, expect to start seeing event results beginning at 6:15 PM and continuing every 15 minutes or so as we go thru tonight's events.

Also, while waiting for event results, please take a moment to send a brief e-mail to airtouch@swimmeet.com expressing your appreciation to Airtouch for providing support to swimmeet.com (i.e. read the 'Express Your Support' message below).

Express Your Support

As a result of Airtouch providing wireless data services and technical support, swimmeet.com has again been able to provide almost 'real time' posting of results from this year's Ohio High School Swimming & Diving Championships from Canton.

If you've enjoyed having such 'real time' access to the meet results, please express your appreciation for Airtouch's support by sending an e-mail to airtouch@swimmeet.com. We'll collect all the e-mail messages and present them to Airtouch management as swimmeet.com looks to increase its sponsorship support from Airtouch.

The more positive feedback we can get from swimmeet.com users, the more financial support swimmeet.com can reasonably expect from Airtouch which, in turn, will mean significant improvements in services offered by swimmeet.com to Ohio high school swimming for next year.

So please, express your appreciation of Airtouch's support of swimmeet.com by sending a brief e-mail to airtouch@swimmeet.com. Thanks...

The evening's most exciting event was the Boys 200 Medley Relay in which Akron Firestone and Cincinnati St. Xavier waged a battle that will be talked about for years to come. In the end, St. Xavier bested Firestone by a mere 29 hundredths of a second to not only break the State record (i.e. a State record that St. Xavier first broke in morning prelims but also set a new National high school record with a time of 1:31.22.

The best individual performance of the night was the new State record set by Mark Gangloff of Akron Firestone in the Boys 200 IM with a time of 1:47.63 which beat last year's State mark of 1:47.70 set by Tony Kurth of Toledo St. Francis.

Expect photos of all of tonight's champions to be available on swimmeet.com around 11:00 PM or possibly earlier.
