- Brooklyn Myers
Brooklyn Myers, of Roger Bacon High School, stated in her essay that swimming has taught her time management and organizational skills. The most valuable to her is team support.
Her extra-curricular activities included participating in two mission trips to Appalachian areas and South Carolina for Blessed Saints Pastoral Region Youth Group; to lifeguard at her local pool and Powell Crosley YMCA; leading various activities as part of her Community Outreach Board; and to lead a freshman service day.
Her Honors English teacher and moderator of the National Honor Society wrote in her letter of recommendation that Brooklyn "embodies a vivid personality that allows her to get along with everyone and exemplifies what it means, not only to be a leader, but to be an honorable human being."
Brooklyn applied to a number of schools and plans to major in exercise science.
Congratulations, Brooklyn.
- Kevin Glennon
-
Kevin Glennon attends Kings High School.
His coach and teacher in AP Computer Science Principles, in his letter of recommendation, described him as one of the most talented student athletes that he has ever coached, stating that Kevin is a leader among his teammates, and he sets a work ethic required to excel.
Kevin is a National Honor Society member; participated on the Countryside Y Torpedoes Swim Team; was a team assistant on a one-week meet in 2021; and volunteered at a local summer team's swim clinic.
In his essay, Kevin described how pain and tightness in his shoulder during his junior year led him to physical therapy and later to the realization that this "unlucky injury" helped reveal his career path.
Kevin will be swimming for the University of Kentucky while studying physical therapy.
All the best, Kevin.
- Jessie Li
Jessie Li, of Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, began making a difference teaching English reading skills to children in China at a school where her mom was once a teacher. This involved using WeChat, and volunteers, and a program that Jessie designed and coordinated which she called StoryTime Connect during her first year of high school.
Jessie mentored volunteers, recorded online sessions to repost, and soon hundreds of children in China were involved. When Covid-19 surfaced, Jessie extended her program to elementary schools, also opened Zoom meetings after school, where high school students read books to kindergarten to second grade children. This led to volunteers recording themselves reading books online, which are accessed by three partner schools on CHCA's Student Organized Service YouTube channel.
Jessie is National Honor Society president, studies piano, and she has been accepted to Yale University to study pre-med.
Here's to continued successes, Jessie.
- Matthew Mayhan
Matthew Mayhan attends Global Impact STEM Academy, but swims for Kenton Ridge High School.
He has been very involved in extra-curricular activities, such as: golf team; District/State Science Days; a paid internship at USAF; and lifeguard at Splash Zone Waterpark.
In her letter of recommendation, Matthew's coach related that he initiated and organized a school supply drive in his capacity as a student ambassador for the Kids in Need Foundation. He connected with local organizations to gain support in collecting supplies, resulting in almost 200 lbs. of supplies and over $500 to support and provide for school children all over the country.
Matthew has applied to UC, Miami, and OU, but he really hopes to attend The Ohio State University to major in business.
Continued successes to you, Matthew.
- Katie Jessee

In her letter of recommendation, a veteran school board member described Katie as a passionate student, who advocates for herself and her fellow students with confidence and poise, with future aspirations, highlighted by a desire to change the world.
Katie's friends describe her as caring, concerned, determined, and loving.
Her extracurricular activities include club swimming for the Mason MantaRays, being a delivery driver, and volunteering for a U. S. Senate candidate. To promote unity among the senior class, Katie organized a gathering to view a sunrise and enjoy donuts together earlier in the school year.
Katie has applied to Lee University and the University of the Cumberlands. But she really hopes to study political science at Liberty University.
Best wishes to you, Katie.
- Seth Thomas
Seth Thomas, of Kenton Ridge High School, received letters of recommendation from both his school principal and his English teacher, who also serves as the National Honor Society advisor.
Each describe Seth as an enthusiastic learner and leader who serves as a role model, as he balances his academic responsibilities and involvement in extra-curricular activities. Those include marching band, the Springfield Y national team, National Honor Society, track, Leo Club-a service club, and to volunteer by helping serve dinner at their annual Touch of Gold dinner and auction.
Seth plans to continue his education and swimming career at Youngstown State University. His major is undecided, but he’s leaning toward business.
All the best in your future endeavors, Seth.
