2023-2024 Season

February 26, 2024

With another successful OHSAA swimming season now complete, swimmeet.com is proud to announce the 2024 Amphitrite and Poseidon award winners!

Congratulations to Dublin Coffman senior Emily Brown and Columbus St. Charles sophomore Austin Carpenter for winning their respective awards, both with record NISCA point totals.

Girls

Emily Brown, who will swim next year at the University of Tennessee, completed one of the most impressive tenures in Ohio high school history after winning the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly.

Emily set a new state record in both events with a 1:57.27 in the 200 IM, and a 52.69 in the 100 Butterfly, and her relay splits were also close to state records.

Those marks and her 200 Freestyle state record from last year (where she also won the Amphitrite award) make Emily the first girl in Ohio history to graduate with a state record in three individual events since Beth Washut in 1982!

Emily's record NISCA point total of 1,194 was highlighted by having seven of her eight events score over 138 points.

With four of the top five finishers in the PowerPoints 100 rankings being seniors, it's difficult to say who the favorite may be for next year. The next three non-seniors in the rankings were Ontario freshman Mirielle Trumpower (4th), Kettering Alter junior Emma Tenhundfeld (6th), and Cincinnati St. Ursula freshman Aubrey Buchanan (7th).

The favorite, however, may be Upper Arlington freshman Riley Hollingsworth. She finished with 869 PowerPoints but lacked a reported 50 Freestyle time. Accounting for the typical difference between a relay start and flat start, adding a generous .70 seconds to her 23.25 split on Upper Arlington's state title 200 Freestyle Relay would give her a 133-point increase in the PowerPoint standings, suggesting she could have easily been over 1,000 points this season!

Boys

Our Poseidon award winner, Austin Carpenter, wins the award after being closely contested all season by last year's winner, Jarrett Payne of Sidney.

Austin comes out on top with a score of 1,186 to Jarrett Payne's 1,161. For some perspective, Payne's record score from last year was 1,113.

Austin's success is highlighted by his first individual state title, that being in the 100 Breaststroke, and his state runner-up finish in the 200 Freestyle.

Austin also received a significant point boost at the final moment, leading off the 200 Freestyle Relay with a state-best time this year of 19.94 to give him four separate events with over 158 PowerPoints!

Another name to note in this year's standings is 2022 Poseidon winner Cincinnati St. Xavier's Thackston McMullan. This year, as a senior, McMullan was the biggest star at the state meet, winning the 200 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle Relay, and 400 Freestyle Relay.

There were three events where McMullan didn't have a time reported this season, so he would likely have been in contention for the Poseidon award with Carpenter and Payne if he had all eight events accounted for.

Thackston McMullan and Jarrett Payne graduate this year, so Austin should be far and away the favorite to win his second Poseidon award next season.

February 19, 2024

This is the pre-State Championship installment for the swimmeet.com Power Points 100 race for the Amphitrite and Poseidon awards and $1,000 scholarships. NISCA PowerPoints will be used for each event to calculate a swimmer's total.

As the District Championships are now complete and the State qualifiers are set, here are the updated rankings going into the State Championship for both girls and boys.

Girls

Emily Brown of Dublin Coffman has all but won her second straight Amphitrite award, as she currently sits with 1,184 powerpoints.

The senior is the State's top qualifier in both the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly, an impressive five full seconds ahead of the second qualifier in the IM. Her 1:58.34 and 53.36 qualifying times are within range of Martina Peroni's 2022 state records. If she's able to beat those Ohio marks of 1:57.77 and 52.96, she'd ideally end up at least eight power points above her current total. With a leadoff time at any point during the meet of around 49-flat in the final relay, Brown could be well on her way to establishing a record 1,200 PowerPoint season for Ohio.

In the race for second place, McCall Freiburger (SR, Upper Arlington) has moved past Alex Downing (SR, Avon) with 970 points. Freiburger, who posted some of the State's top 100 Breaststroke times earlier this season, will be looking to push her total closer to that 1,000-point barrier as she's now doing the 50 and 100 Freestyle at the State meet this weekend (4th place qualifier in both). Downing is one of the top qualifiers in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke and will still have a shot at finishing 2nd.

Boys

For the boys, the race for first between Austin Carpenter (SO, Columbus St. Charles) and defending Poseidon award winner Jarrett Payne (SR, Sidney) is the closest it's been in weeks, 1,164 to 1,155, respectively.

Carpenter continues to improve his times as the State meet approaches, and he's the top qualifier in both 100 Breaststroke and 200 Freestyle. Besting Jake Foster's state record of 53.53 might be tough, but if Carpenter can reach that mark, that would be an additional five powerpoints. His District 200 Free time of 1:37.61 is .25 ahead of defending champion Thackston McMullan of St. Xavier. If the two boys can match McMullan's 1:35.86 from 2023, that would give Carpenter an additional 8 points, and that 13-point cumulative boost from both individual events would put him at 1,177, a mark Payne may not reach.

Jarrett Payne's best chance at passing Carpenter will come in the 200 IM, where he has currently qualified 2nd for State with a 1:49.92 (149 power points). Since Payne's Sidney relays did not make it to state, he'll need a multi-second improvement in the IM to have a chance, and breaking the 1:47.00 barrier would be a great start. It would put him up an additional 13 points from his current total of 1,155. Payne's the State's top backstroker this season, and improving his 47.87 season-best time in that event to a 47-low would likely give him five more powerpoints, giving him a shot at the 1,170-1,175 range.

Carpenter has a lead, but anything is possible. The biggest thorn in Payne's chances is that Carpenter can still add points in the 100 Freestyle. Columbus St. Charles may not contend for the team championship this year, but they may want to have their star swimmer anchor the final relay. If that happens, Carpenter's only chance at perhaps fully cementing his first Poseidon award will come leading off the 400 Freestyle Relay in the preliminary session. Either way, both swimmers still have a chance at the scholarship.

The race for 3rd place is fairly competitive as several names are either at the 1,000 point mark, or have a shot at reaching it after this weekend.

Cleveland St. Ignatius SR Joshua Toothman is the 50 Freestyle favorite and currently sits in 3rd place with 1,010 points. He's qualified first in that with a 20.10 and breaking into the 19-second range and 43-second range in the 100 Free could propel him into a solidified spot on the podium.

St. Xavier SR Alex Ingram and Walnut Hills SR Cameron Craft are both swimming the 200 and 500 Freestyle and could improve their scores significantly. Ingram, who qualifies at 1:41.37 and 4:40.14, will move up close to 25 PowerPoints if he can just match his best times from last year. Craft's qualifying times of 1:41.82 and 4:39.08 also allow over a 20 point improvement if he can just match his best marks. They will be the primary names fighting Toothman for the third position.

February 12, 2024

This is the post-sectional installment for the swimmeet.com Power Points 100 race for the Amphitrite and Poseidon awards and $1,000 scholarships. NISCA PowerPoints will be used for each event to calculate a swimmer's total.

As swimmers have settled in for their championship events, here are the updated rankings going into the District Championships.

Girls

For the girls, Emily Brown (SR, Dublin Coffman) has a lock on the award as she leads by 209 points going into this weekend. For reference, 30 girls sit within 209 points of Alex Downing's second-place total of 965.

Brown, who already has the state record in the 200 Freestyle, has switched it up this year and is swimming the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly. Martina Peroni has the state record in both events at 1:57.77 and 52.96, respectively. If Brown can beat those times, she could increase her total by at least 17 more points.

With Coffman expected to qualify multiple relays for the state meet, Brown could have a shot at setting the new standard above the 1,200-point mark if she leads off freestyle relays.

Boys

The boys' race will come down to Austin Carpenter (SO, Columbus St. Charles) and Jarrett Payne (SR, Sidney) as Carpenter continues to sit 15 points above the defending Poseidon champion - 1,161 to 1,146.

Payne, who is swimming the 200 IM and 100 Backstroke, still has a chance to catch up. His best time in the 200 IM is almost two seconds faster than his 145-power point mark from this high school season, and just that difference is 10 points. Any additional improvement in the IM and his 100 Backstroke should put him at Carpenter's current total.

Additionally, Payne has a chance to lead off both freestyle relays this weekend at Miami for the Southwest District champs. His best time in the 100 Freestyle is from 2 years ago, and he's improved immensely since then, suggesting he'll make up even more points in the sprints.

Carpenter, who is swimming the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke, also has a chance to raise his total and potentially put Payne out of reach.

Carpenter could be pushed to the max in the 200 Freestyle as he'll be up against a field that includes defending champion Thackston McMullan. The St. Xavier SR was a 1:35.86 last year, 11 power points higher than Carpenter's current mark.

In the 100 Breaststroke, Carpenter has been 54-low on multiple occasions this year and will be going for Jake Foster's state record of 53.53. That time is five additional points better than Carpenter's current season best.

Also, Columbus St. Charles is expected to have all relays qualify high for the state meet, so if Carpenter needs additional points, he should be available to lead off at some point and raise his totals in the 50 and 100 Freestyle.

There's no guarantee how either swimmer will perform over the next two weeks, as the Poseidon race could still come down to the wire.

February 5, 2024

This is the eighth installment for the swimmeet.com Power Points 100 race for the Amphitrite and Poseidon awards and $1,000 scholarships. NISCA Power Points will be used for each event to calculate a swimmer's total.

A reminder that while swimmers can increase their total through improved times throughout the year, the best way to climb the leaderboard is by swimming all eight individual events.

If your name or times have been wrongfully excluded in any way, please make sure to have your coach submit the updated times to Dave Dumond at ddumond@swimmeet.com.

With sectionals coming up this weekend, the season rankings stand as such.

Girls

Emily Brown of Dublin Coffman has her second Amphitrite award all but locked up. After swimming a 1:06.06 in the 100 Breaststroke this past week, she now sits at 1,174 points, ahead of her winning total from last year and over 200 points ahead of the runner-up position. Brown has the best Ohio time in five of the eight individual events and is ranked 4th and 6th in two others. As the Ohio record holder in the 200 Freestyle and defending state champion in that and the 500 Free, she could increase her lead even more after the state tournament.

Alex Downing (SR, Avon) and McCall Freiburger (Sr, Upper Arlington) continue to occupy the #2 and #3 slots in the rankings with 965 and 955 points, respectively. Downing, who finished 1st and 2nd in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke for Division I last year, has already about matched her times from state finals. Freiburger, a scorer in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke has improved her times, suggesting both girls may push even closer to that 1,000-point barrier in the coming weeks.

Other girls with an outside shot of breaking that barrier include Riley Hollingsworth (FR, Upper Arlington) and Claire Mehok (SR, Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown), who both rank in the top 21 and still have yet to swim all eight events.

Boys

On the boys' side, Austin Carpenter (SO, Columbus St. Charles) and Jarrett Payne (SR, Sidney) still sit just 15 points apart in the race for the Poseidon award, with Carpenter leading 1,161 to 1,146. Both swimmers are already above Payne's winning score of 1,113 from last year, with room to go up even more by season's end.

Carpenter's lead may seem small, but a 15-point increase would require multiple seconds of improvement. Payne may be able to do just that, seeing as he'll be swimming the 200 IM and 100 Backstroke at sectionals. His high school 200 IM time of 1:50.73 is over 2 seconds and 10 power points behind his best time of 1:48.46. If he can swim a personal best at state this year, he could catch Carpenter on that event alone.

Carpenter will be swimming the 200 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke, two of the four events where he's currently Ohio's top swimmer. He'll likely be up against defending champion Thackston McMullan from Cincinnati St. Xavier. McMullan (the 2022 Poseidon winner) took the event in a 1:35.86 last year, which would be an 11-point improvement over Carpenter's current time of 1:38.11.

Relay leadoffs could decide the Poseidon race, as both boys will have opportunities to post their best 50 and 100 Freestyle times in the next few weeks.

Rounding out the boys' top 3 is Joshua Toothman, Cleveland St. Ignatius SR. His 1,000 points are headlined by his 20.21 time in the 50 Freestyle that currently leads the state of Ohio. Alex Ingram (SR, Cincinnati St. Xavier) sits at 989 points going into the swimming post-season and is one of only a few other swimmers with a chance to break the 1,000-point barrier.

January 29, 2024

This is the seventh installment for the swimmeet.com Power Points 100 race for the Amphitrite and Poseidon awards and $1,000 scholarships. NISCA Power Points will be used for each event to calculate a swimmer's total.

A reminder that while swimmers can increase their total through improved times throughout the year, the best way to climb the leaderboard is by swimming all eight individual events.

If your name or times have been wrongfully excluded in any way, please make sure to have your coach submit the updated times to Dave Dumond at swimmeet.com.

With many league championship meets having taken place this past weekend, there are some updates to the leaderboards for both girls and boys despite minimal lead changes.

Girls

Emily Brown retains her significant lead in the race for the Amphitrite award by the same 80-point margin as last week.

The Dublin Coffman senior has Ohio's top time in the 100, 200, and 500 Freestyle, the 200 IM, and the 100 Butterfly. She also ranks 4th in the 100 Backstroke and 6th in the 50 Freestyle. If Brown can swim the 100 Breaststroke and go the same 1:06 time from last year, she would surpass her 2023 winning total of 1,167 points.

As the 200 Freestyle State record holder and defending champ in both that and the 500 Free, it's expected that she'll swim those events at the state tournament. With the Ohio Capital Conference Championships having now concluded, it's possible she won't swim the 100 Breaststroke before season's end, leaving a small crack in the door for a potential upset.

The first swimmers to watch are two names that have held 2nd and 3rd in the rankings for multiple weeks now: Avon senior Alex Downing and Upper Arlington senior McCall Freiburger. At 965 and 955 points, respectively, both girls have a chance at breaking the 1,000-point barrier, but since they've both swum all eight individual events, it will be tough to gain an additional 80/90 points to match Brown.

Some swimmers to watch include Claire Mehok, a senior at Hathaway Brown, and Riley and Hayden Hollingsworth, both from Upper Arlington.

Mehok is only 20th in the PowerPoint 100 rankings right now, but she's broken the 800-point mark with only six events. Her average in those six events is an impressive 133.5 points, so it's possible that if she were to swim the 100 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke, she could surpass Brown's total of 1,045 points!

The Hollingsworth girls also have plenty of room to move up the list as neither have posted times in all eight events. This is notable because both girls are among the very fastest in Ohio in the events they have swum.

Boys

The boys' side continues to see the same two-headed race as the season approaches the state tournament, between Columbus St. Charles sophomore Austin Carpenter and last year's winner, Jarrett Payne of Sidney. The race currently sits at 1,161 points for Carpenter and 1,146 for Payne.

The St. Charles sophomore has the state's top times (and PowerPoint mark) thus far in the 100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle, 200 IM, and 100 Breaststroke, which is the top swim in Ohio this year at 163 power points. Payne is the state's top swimmer in the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke and is near the top in almost every other event.

Carpenter's lead may seem small, but with both boys having posted fast times in all eight events, the 15-point lead isn't insignificant. Payne has far surpassed his winning total from last year (1,113 points), but if there's any time left, he could still gain an additional 5 points if he can match his 1:49.58 time in the 200 IM from last season.

Joshua Toothman, a St. Ignatius senior, has taken over 3rd place in the Poseidon standings and reached the 1,000-point barrier as he's now posted a swim in all eight events. His 20.21 time in the 50 Freestyle is good for 156 points and the fastest such time in the state this year.

A swimmer to watch come taper in the following weeks is Luke Vickers, a senior from Massillon Jackson. Currently the #2 Ohio recruit according to Swimcloud, Vickers has yet to post a 100 Backstroke time, which is currently keeping him out of 3rd place. With taper and that extra ~100-130 point boost, he could challenge the 1,110-point barrier and potentially the leaders by the end of the season.

Finally, Milford freshmen Brady Campbell is another name to look out for as he's only swum six event's and his 50 and 100 Freestyle from this past weekend are among the very best in the state at over 150 points.

January 22, 2024

This is the sixth installment for the swimmeet.com Power Points 100 race for the Amphitrite and Poseidon awards and $1,000 scholarships.

As we approach the end of January, some changes to the top of the leaderboards have occurred as swimmers get ready for their league championships these next two weeks.

Girls

Emily Brown appears to be well in control of the race at the moment. The Dublin Coffman senior's 1,045 power points are 80 clear of the current runner-up. She has the top 4 swims in Ohio this year, and her remaining three events aren't far behind.

While her 80-point lead is impressive, Brown could increase that number considerably if she swims the 100 Breaststroke before season's end. Even a swim that warrants points well under her average could provide a power point total above her winning score from last season.

As a double defending state champion, 200 Freestyle state record holder, and with taper coming up, Brown may have an insurmountable lead if she swims the 100 Breaststroke.

Avon senior Alex Downing remains in second place with her 965-point total, helped last week by her improved times in the 100 Backstroke. That 54.92 time is still the 4th best in Ohio this year, and she has a shot at breaking the 1,000-point barrier and taking home the Amphitrite Award if Emily Brown doesn't swim the 100 Breaststroke before the end of the season.

McCall Frieburger (Upper Arlington SR) remains in third place for the second straight week with her 955-point total. Freiburger, like Downing, has a shot at the title and breaking the 1,000-point barrier, but with both girls having swum the maximum eight events, it will take considerable time improvements to challenge Brown. Freiburger's total is highlighted by a 1:04.01 time in the 100 Breaststroke (143 points).

Ontario Freshman Mirielle Trumpower has a chance to break out during taper this year and challenge the 1,000-point barrier as well.

Boys

As the championship season approaches, the boys' side has a much closer race.

Last year's Poseidon Champ, Jarrett Payne, found himself atop the leaderboard last week for the first time this year, but Columbus St. Charles sophomore Austin Carpenter has leapfrogged Payne to reclaim the top slot.

Carpenter's 44.01 time in the 100 Freestyle last week is now the 3rd best overall swim in Ohio this year, giving him two swims with at least 158 power points and, like Brown, four over 150. Carpenter's 54.16 in the 100 Breaststroke is still the top Ohio swim this season, and he remains near the top in his six other events.

Payne sits 11 points back with the exact 1,140-point total from last week. He, too, has some of the best Ohio times in all 8 of his events, highlighted by his 47.87 in the 100 Backstroke, the top such swim in the state this season.

The race for the Poseidon award should come down to the state meet, with taper times and relay leadoffs likely playing a major role.

Cincinnati St. Xavier senior Alex Ingram remains in 3rd place with 971 points. A versatile swimmer, Ingram has over 120 power points in seven of his eight events and, with taper, could very well break the 1,000-point barrier.

St. Ignatius senior Joshua Toothman is the state's best swimmer thus far in the 50 Free (the only event not led by Carpenter or Payne) and still has the second-best 100 Free time after Carpenter surpassed him this past week. Toothman's 20.21 in that 50 Free is worth 156 points, good for the 4th best overall swim in the state this year.

Another swimmer to watch is Massillon Jackson senior Luke Vickers, who is in rare company with a 151-point swim (his 55.73 100 Breaststroke). He has yet to swim the 100 Backstroke, and given his average of over 130 points per event, Vickers could push for 1,100 points with taper and a backstroke entry.

The final standings should become much clearer in the next two weeks with league champs coming up.

January 15, 2023

This is the fifth installment for the Power Points 100 race for the Amphitrite and Poseidon awards and $1,000 scholarships. NISCA Power Points will be used for each event to calculate a swimmer's total.

A reminder that while swimmers can lead/be on the list during the regular season regardless of how many events they've swum, the season-ending winner for both girls and boys will require the swimmer to have posted at least one swim in all eight individual high school events.

If your name or times have been wrongfully excluded in any way, please make sure to have your coach submit the updated times to Dave Dumond at ddumond@swimmeet.com.

After a weekend filled with big meets across the state where swimmers had opportunities to move up in the rankings, here is the update for girls and boys.

Girls

2023 Amphitrite winner Emily Brown (SR, Dublin Coffman) has become the first girl to break the 1,000-point barrier this season by improving a full 175 points in just the last seven days.

The bulk of that increase comes from her swimming a 49.67 in the 100 Freestyle. That's good for 155 points and is far and away the best time in Ohio this year.

Brown now has the top 4 swims in the state this season and along with being the defending 200 and 500 Freestyle state champion, she's swum times in the 200 IM, 100 Free, and 100 Fly that would have won state titles last year as well.

The Amphitrite award is seemingly hers if she can post a time in the 100 Breaststroke before season's end.

Alex Downing (SR, Avon) continues to hold onto 2nd place in the rankings after she too has improved over 100 points in the last week. That increase has a lot to do with her now having gone times in the 100 Backstroke and 100 Butterfly close to her HS bests. That 54.92 in the 100 Backstroke is tied for the 4th best Ohio swim this year.

At 965 points, Downing has a real shot at reaching the 1,000-point barrier and could claim the Amphitrite award herself if Brown fails to swim the 100 Breaststroke.

McCall Freilburger (SR, Upper Arlington) moves back into the top 3 for the first time since week 1. Freiburger has far surpassed her 834 point total from last year as her 955 is just 10 behind Downing. Having improved a good amount in the last year, she could be a threat to win it all come taper.

Boys

On the boys' side, last year's Poseidon winner Jarrett Payne (SR, Sydney) finally finds himself back atop the Poseidon rankings but winning his 2nd straight scholarship is far from a sure thing.

Payne won 4 events this past weekend at the Southwest Ohio Classic and in the process, has already passed his championship point total from last year with 1,140 power points. The thing is, Austin Carpenter (SO, Columbus St. Charles) sits just seven back with 1,133 power points.

Payne has the 2nd and 5th best point scoring swims in Ohio this year while Carpenter has the 1st and 4th and the two swimmers combine to have 10 total swims worth over 140 points this season with the top time in five of the eight events.

While neither swimmer has won a state title in the past, both are posting best times this year and should contend in whatever two events they choose for the state tournament.

It will likely be that last day of the season that determines this year's Poseidon award winner.

Alex Ingram (SR, Cincinnati St. Xavier) has passed Peter Helmuth for 3rd place on the list. Ingram has posted a time in every event and while none of them approach the top marks in Ohio, his versatility is quite apparent seeing as seven of his eight events score over 120 power points.

Joshua Toothman (SR, Cleveland St. Ignatius) has the top Ohio times in the 50 and 100 Free with the former swim of 20.21 being worth 156 points.

Having swum only five events, Toothman may not be able to contend for the Poseidon award but could quickly move up the list in the final weeks if he can swim the 100 Breast, 100 Back, and 200 Free.

January 8, 2023

This is the fourth installment for the Power Points 100 race for the Amphitrite and Poseidon awards and $1,000 scholarships.

With many of the expected contenders now finding their way to the top of the charts, here is the update for girls and boys.

Girls

Last year's champion, Emily Brown, has taken over the lead for the girls with 848 points. Having swum only six events thus far, Brown is already on pace to compete with her total of 1,167 points from last year, especially with this season's 100 Butterfly performance.

Posting a best time of 56.70 in the fly last year for 133 points, Brown has already swum a 53.93 this year for 153 power points. That and her 1:59.68 time in the 200 IM (159 power points) are still the top two swims in Ohio this year.

A double state champion and 200 Freestyle Ohio record setter last season, the Dublin Coffman SR appears to be in good position to claim her second straight Amphitrite award if she can post times in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke and contend with her state title times from last year.

Avon SR, Alex Downing, is currently the swimmer with the best chance to challenge Brown for the Amphitrite award. Downing has posted times in 7 events, but what's impressive is that she's yet to post anywhere near her best in the two events she finished as D1 state champion and runner-up last year.

Her 54.59 in the 100 Backstroke and 54.97 in the 100 Butterfly from 2022/2023 are cumulatively 6.75 seconds and 52 power points better than the times she's posted this season. That means that once she swims the 100 Breaststroke and tapers this year, breaking the 1,000-point barrier is well within reach.

Ontario FR Mirielle Trumpower is in 3rd place by a single point right now with her 7-event season total of 809. Her 56.22 in the 100 Backstroke is good for 140 points and the 2nd best in Ohio this year.

Upper Arlington SR, Lizzie Oliphant still has the state's 3rd best swim thus far with a 23.31 in the 50 Free and could move up the rankings quickly if she gets more events in.

Boys

On the boys' side, we have what appears to be a 2-way race for the Poseidon award.

Columbus St. Charles sophomore Austin Carpenter has a good-sized lead at the moment over last year's champion, Jarrett Payne (SR, Sidney), but that 104-point difference is expected to be negated once Payne swims the 200 IM at the Southwest Ohio Classic this weekend.

Carpenter currently has the top Ohio time in the 100 Breaststroke with a 54.16 (163 points) that's within reach of Jake Foster's Ohio record of 53.53. He's also posted the state's 4th best time with a 1:38.11 in the 200 Freestyle, and his 20.66 and 45.85 times in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events are also above 140 points.

Payne currently has the state's top performance in 100 Backstroke by a considerable amount. His 47.87 time is good for 162 points, right behind Carpenter's breaststroke time. Payne's 48.41 in the 100 Butterfly (154 points) is the top Ohio time in that event, and his 45.35 (145 points) ranks 2nd in Ohio for the 100 Freestyle. If he can match his 2022/2023 time of 59.11 in the 100 Breaststroke, the extra 127 points would place him already ahead of his Poseidon award winning 1,113 points from last year.

Peter Helmuth, a North Canton Hoover SR, is the clear-cut leader for 3rd place. His 939 points are 79 points ahead of 4th place, highlighted by his 50.47 in the 100 backstroke, which is good for 142 points and the 2nd-best time in Ohio this year (in that event).

Cincinnati St. Xavier SR, Thackston McMullan, who won the Poseidon award in 2021/2022, has finally gotten his name onto the top 100 for the season and should have a chance to move way up the list after the Southwest Ohio Classic this weekend. His best times suggest he's capable of challenging the likes of Carpenter and Payne by season's end.

This is the third installment for the Power Points 100 race for the Amphitrite and Poseidon awards and $1,000 scholarships.

With new swimmers at the top of the ranks for both lists, here is the update for girls and boys.

Girls
Ontario Freshman Mirielle Trumpower has taken over first place in the girls' ranks with 809 points after posting times in 7 events. Her 56.22 in the 100 Backstroke is good for 140 power points, while she also comes in with 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, and 100 Butterfly times over 120 points.

Alyse Thord, who finished just 46th last year with 697 points, has already surpassed that with a total of 761, good for 2nd in this week's ranks. The Oak Harbor senior's position is greatly strengthened by the fact that she has times posted in all eight events, highlighted by her 1:09.26/109-point performance in the 100 Breaststroke.

Third in our rankings is last week's leader, Alex Downing, who has risen her total from 732 to 741. The Avon senior has six events swum so far this year, five of which she's gained over 118 points in.

Last year's Amphitrite winner, Emily Brown, has started to climb the list as she's now posted the top 2 times in Ohio this year. The Dublin Coffman senior's 1:59.68 in the 200 IM and 53.93 in the 100 Butterfly are good for 159 and 153 power points, respectively. This year's third-best swim in Ohio belongs to Upper Arlington senior Lizzie Oliphant, who posted a 23.31 in the 50 Freestyle, good for 146 points.

Boys
On the boys' side, Columbus St. Charles sophomore Austin Carpenter has moved into the lead with 949 power points. Carpenter now has times posted in 7 events, ranging from 117 to 163 power points. That 163 number is his best 100 Breaststroke at 54.16, the top swim in Ohio this season. Carpenter's 1:38.11 in the 200 Freestyle (150 power points) is the 4th best Ohio swim this year.

Second in the ranks is last week's leader, Peter Helmuth. The North Canton Hoover senior's 939 power points are a 99-point improvement from last week, helped by the fact that he's now posted swims in all eight events. Helmuth's highlights include a 50.47 in the 100 Backstroke (142 points) and a 51.32 in the 100 Butterfly (131 points).

Last year's Poseidon winner, Jarrett Payne, is coming in at third this week. The Sidney senior now has six events submitted so far this season, all of which have at least 131 power points. His 47.87 in the 100 Backstroke (162 points), 48.41 in the 100 Butterfly (154 points), and 45.35 in the 100 Freestyle (145 points) are the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th best Ohio swims so far this season.

This is the second week's installment for the Power Points 100 race for the Amphitrite and Poseidon awards and $1,000 scholarships. NISCA Power Points will be used for each event in order to calculate a swimmer's total.

A reminder that while swimmers can lead/be on the list during the regular season regardless of how many events they've swum, the season ending winner for both girls and boys will require the swimmer to have posted at least one swim in all 8 individual high school events by season's end.

As more swimmers have started to participate in high school meets around the state, the rankings have already seen multiple swaps in just the last 7 days. Here are the updates for both girls and boys.

Girls
The girls' side has a new leader as last week's 5th place finisher, Alex Downing, now comes in with 732 points. The Avon senior who finished 8th in last year's final rankings has vaulted up the list with 6 events swum thus far, highlighted by her 50 and 100 Freestyle. Downing's 51.81 in the 100 Free is good for 135 points, while her 24.03 in the 50 Free is worth 132.

Oxford Talawanda sophomore Abbie Curry, who finished 32nd last year with 753 points, has already about matched that total with 712 so far this year, good enough for 2nd place on this week's list. Curry's place in the top 3 this week is helped greatly by her having already swum all 8 individual events, with her highest NISCA ranking coming from a 25.04 in the 50 Freestyle, worth 114 points.

Lilian Bailey, a Gahanna Columbus Academy Junior, has moved up from 7th last week to 3rd now with her 704-point total. Bailey has participated in 7 events so far this season highlighted by her 2:05.83 in the 200 IM (134 points) and 57.22 in the 100 Fly (129 points).

Upper Arlington senior, Lizzie Oliphant, still has the 1st and 3rd best reported times in the state so far this season with her 23.31 in the 50 Freestyle and 51.11 in the 100 Freestyle, good for 146 and 141 points, respectively. Oliphant's teammate and classmate, McCall Freiburger, has the 2nd best swim thus far with her 1:04.01 in the 100 Breaststroke.

Boys
On the boys' side, we have a new leader as North Canton Hoover senior, Peter Helmuth's 840 points give him the top spot by a single point. Helmuth has already posted a time in 7 events, all with over 100 points, highlighted by his 50.47 in the 100 Backstroke, good for 142 power points.

Geneva Junior, Nathan Reigle, holds onto the 2nd place slot with the same 839 points as last week. While having no new times added in the last week, Reigle is helped by having already swum all 8 individual events, with his best swim being a 121 point 1:44.96 in the 200 Freestyle.

Josh Riegler remains in the top 3 with his same 804 point total that had him in 2nd last week. The Gahanna Lincoln senior's placing is also helped due to him having posted times in all 8 individual events, showing consistency with 4 of his swims scoring between 110 and 112 points.

The top 5 swims so far this year are all from just 2 swimmers. Columbus St. Charles sophomore, Austin Carpenter still has the best Ohio time this year with his 54.16 time in the 100 Breaststroke being good for 163 points, and his 1:38.11 in the 200 Freestyle is good for the state's 4th best time thus far with 150 points.

Last year's Poseidon winner, Jarrett Payne, has jumped into the top 20 with only 4 events posted so far, including the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th best times in Ohio. His 47.74 in the 100 Backstroke, 48.41 in the 100 Butterfly, and 45.35 in the 100 Freestyle are good for 162, 154, and 145 power points, respectively.

As most club swimmers are now through their mid-season meet and have started dual meets, the high school season is officially underway as are the races for the Amphitrite and Poseidon awards.

Recognizing the female and male swimmer who scored the most NISCA short course power points while doing the 8 individual high school events during the season, we'd like to again congratulate last year's winners - Emily Brown of Dublin Coffman and Jarrett Payne of Sidney. Both swimmers scored over 1,100 power points and received their respective Amphitrite and Poseidon awards and $1,000 scholarships at season's end.

Brown and Payne, both seniors this season, have yet to climb the leaderboard but are expected to contend for the Amphitrite and Poseidon awards once again.

Girls
On the girls' side, our first Power Points 100 leader is Sam Braun, a freshman from Gahanna Lincoln. Her 696 points are an impressive result of having already swum all 8 individual events this season.

Second in the girls' ranks is McCall Freiburger, a senior from Upper Arlington with 637 points. Freiburger finished 16th in the standings last year, is the 9th highest returning swimmer in the Power Points 100, and has the 3rd best NISCA swim of any girl in the top 50 so far this year with her 1:04.01 time in the 100 Breaststroke.

Third in the ranks is Tinsley Zhang, a sophomore from Gates Mills Gilmour with 632 points. Her improvement from 28th in last year's rankings is highlighted by solid swims so far in the 200 Freestyle, 200 IM, and 50 Freestyle.

The top swim in Ohio so far this season for the girls is Lizzie Oliphant's (SR, Upper Arlington) 50 Freestyle. Her 23.31 time is good for 146 power points.

Boys
On the boys' side, our current leader (by a substantial margin) is Nathan Reigle, who's 839 points has already far surpassed his 663 total from last year that saw him finish 66th in the rankings. Reigle, a Geneva JR has impressively swam all 8 events this season already, highlighted by a 1:44.96 in the 200 Freestyle.

Second in our boys' rankings is Josh Riegler, a Gahanna Lincoln SR who finished 30th in last year's Power Points 100 ranks. Riegler's position in the rankings is also largely in part to him having swum all 8 individual races, 5 of which he's posted times with over 100 power points.

Rounding out the top 3 so far is Upper Arlington Senior, Jared Rabadam. His best swim of the season is a 21.46 in the 50 Freestyle (130 points) but not far behind is a pair of 126 point times with his 1:43.71 in the 200 Freestyle, and 47.43 in the 100 Freestyle.

The top boys' swim in Ohio so far this year is a 54.16 in the 100 Breaststroke by Austin Carpenter (SO, Columbus St. Charles), worth 163 power points. Carpenter's 1:38.11 in the 200 Freestyle is good for the 2nd best swim of the season so far and is worth 150 points.

As a reminder, swimmers's results must be submitted to swimmeet.com in order to appear in the Power Poinst 100 rankings and be eligible for the Amphitrite and Poseidon awards.
