  2. The junior was state champion in the 50 Freestyle, state runner-up in the 100 Freestyle, and her 50 Freestyle time was ranked 10th in the nation.

  18. The senior makes her 3rd straight all-star team after runner-up performances in both the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke. Aschinger was also part of Upper Arlington’s state champion 200 Medley Relay team.

  20. The sophomore was state runner-up in the 200 Freestyle and finished 3rd in the 500 Freestyle.

1981

  1. Beth Washut (1)

  2. The sophomore blew away the field in the 100 and 200 Freestyle and had the 2nd and 3rd best times in the nation, respectively. Her times were also easily good enough for new state records, with her 1:47.6 time in the 200 Freestyle dropping an astonishing 4.5 seconds from the old state record.

  4. The sophomore was state champion in the 100 Backstroke, finished 4th in the 200 IM, and was part of Hawken’s state champion 200 Medley Relay team. Her 100 Backstroke time of 58.0 was ranked 1st in the nation this year.
  5. Jenny Johnston (2)
    Cincinnati Walnut Hills
  6. The junior was state champion in the 500 Freestyle and state runner-up in the 200 Freestyle. Her 500 Freestyle time was a new state record and 7th fastest in the country this year.

  16. The freshman was runner-up in the 100 Backstroke, 3rd in the 200 Freestyle, and her 100 Backstroke time was top 10 in the country.

1982

  1. Kim Rhodenbaugh (1)

  2. The sophomore led Oak Hills to their first girls team title with state titles in both the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke. Her 200 IM was 4th best in the nation while her 100 Breaststroke time of 1:02.49 was a new national record!
  3. Beth Washut (2)
    St. John
  4. The junior was state champion in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle. For the second straight year, she set multiple state records as her 23.6 and 49.9 times were ranked 5th and 2nd in the nation, respectively.
  5. Jenny Johnston (3)
    Cincinnati Walnut Hills
  6. The senior was state champion in both the 200 and 500 Freestyle, and her 4:51 time in the 500 Freestyle set a new state record and was 7th in the national ranks.
  7. Paige Halley (1)

  8. The sophomore was state champion in the 100 Butterfly and finished 5th in the 200 IM. Her 100 Butterfly time of 56.6 was a new state record and ranked 11th nationally.

  10. The senior was state champion in the 100 Backstroke with the 11th fastest such swim in the country this year.

  12. The senior makes her second all-star team after runner-up performances in both the 200 and 500 Freestyle. Both of her swims were Top-16 national times.

  14. The sophomore was state runner-up in the 200 IM and finished 3rd in the 100 Breaststroke. Her respective times were the 12th and 7th best in the country this year.

  16. Making her 3rd all-star team, the senior was state runner-up in the 100 Freestyle and finished 3rd in the 50 Freestyle. Her 100 Free was 6th nationally while her 50 Free was ranked 15th.

  18. The sophomore was state runner-up in the 50 Freestyle and finished 3rd in the 100 Freestyle. Both of her times were Top-16.

  20. The sophomore was state runner-up in the 100 Backstroke and finished 3rd in the 200 Freestyle. Her 100 Backstroke time was the 12th best in the country this year.

  22. The senior just misses out on her 3rd straight all-star team because she only scored as a finalist in a single event, but it’s worth mentioning that in her signature 100 Butterfly, she went a best time with the 7th best national swim in that event this year.

1983

  2. The senior was state champion in both the 200 and 100 Freestyle. Washut graduates with an Ohio record (tied) 6 total individual titles, and this was her 3rd straight 100 Freestyle victory, a record for girls. Washut’s national ranks were 3rd in the 100 Freestyle and 5th in the 200 Freestyle, and she graduates with state records in both of those events.

  4. The sophomore was state champion in the 50 Freestyle and runner-up in the 100 Freestyle. Her 50 Freestyle time of 23.4 set a new state record, and her respective national rankings were 3rd and 5th in those 2 events.

  6. The junior repeats as state champion in the 100 Breaststroke where her 1:03 time was 3rd best in the nation this year.

  20. The seniors both make the all-star team after tying with 30 points each and no national points. Wiese was 3rd in the 50 Freestyle and 5th in the 100 Freestyle, while Brewer was 3rd in the 100 Breaststroke and 5th in the 200 IM.

1984

  2. The junior successfully defended her state title in the 50 Freestyle and also won the 100 Freestyle. Her 50 Freestyle time of 22.94 set a new state record, was the top time in the nation this season, and the 2nd best in national history. Her 100 Freestyle time of 50.4 was the 2nd fastest in the country this year.
  3. Kim Rhodenbaugh (3)
    Cincinnati Oak Hills
  4. The senior won her 3rd straight title in the 100 Breaststroke and her 2nd overall title in the 200 IM. Her 200 IM time of 2:04.12 set a new state record, and both of her swims were ranked 2nd in the nation this season.
  5. Buffy Krieger (1)
    Cincinnati Finneytown
  6. The sophomore was state champion in the 200 Freestyle and runner-up in the 100 Freestyle. Her times were the 11th and 4th fastest in the country this year, respectively.
  7. Janelle Bosse (3)
    Cincinnati McAuley
  8. The senior and 3x all-star was state champion in the 500 Freestyle and finished 2nd to Rhodenbaugh in the 200 IM. Her time in that 200 IM of 2:04.28 was better than the old state record and was the 3rd best time in the nation this season.
  9. Kim Hanson (3)

  10. The senior and now 3x all-star was runner-up in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle, but her times were the 6th and 7th fastest in the country this year, giving her 25 national level points which was 3rd most in Ohio this season. She was also the anchor on GlenOak’s state champion 200 Medley Relay.
  11. Kami Mathews (1)

  12. The freshman was state champion in the 100 Backstroke and finished 3rd in the 200 IM. Her 100 Backstroke time of 57.9 was 6th best in the nation this season.
  13. Pam Lechner (4)

  14. The senior notably makes her 4th straight all-star team after finishing 2nd in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke. Her 100 Backstroke time was 14th best in the nation. Lechner’s record for 4 straight all-star teams almost unbelievably occurred without winning a single individual state title.
  15. Paige Halley (2)

  16. The senior makes her 2nd straight all-star team after winning the 100 Butterfly (with a Top-16 time) and scoring in the 200 IM.
  17. Andrea Szekely (1)
    Bowling Green
  18. The junior was state runner-up in the 100 Butterfly and was 3rd in the 200 Freestyle.
  19. Melanie Valerio & Sarah Ralston (1)
    Hawken
  20. The freshman and sophomore led Hawken to their first girls team title, and both scored 30 points at the state meet. Valerio, a freshman, was 3rd in the 50 Freestyle and 5th in the 100 Freestyle, while Ralston, a sophomore was 4th in both the 100 and 200 Freestyle. Both girls were part of Hawken’s state title and state record setting 400 Freestyle Relay, and Valerio’s 50 Freestyle time was 13th best in the country this year.

1985

  2. The senior was state champion in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle. This was her 3rd straight 50 Freestyle state title and 2nd straight in the 100 Freestyle. Her national ranks in those 2 events were 6th and 4th, respectively.
  3. Andrea Szekely (2)
    Bowling Green
  4. The senior was state champion in both the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly. Her time of 55.8 in that 100 Butterfly set a new state record and was ranked 3rd nationally this year.
  5. Buffy Krieger (2)
    Cincinnati Finneytown
  6. The junior was state champion in the 100 Freestyle and finished runner-up in the 100 Freestyle. Her 200 Freestyle time of 1:49 makes her just the 2nd Ohio girl to break the 1:50 barrier and was 6th best in the country this year. Her 100 Freestyle time was 9th fastest.
  7. Stephanie Zunich (1)

  8. The senior was state champion in the 100 Breaststroke and finished 4th in the 100 Butterfly. Her 100 Breaststroke time of 1:05.05 was 3rd fastest in the country this year.

  10. The freshman was state champion in the 500 Freestyle and was runner-up in the 200 Freestyle.

  4. The senior rejoins the winners circle for the first time since her freshman year after winning the 100 Butterfly and finishing 2nd in the 500 Freestyle. Her 100 Butterfly time of 56.0 was the 2nd fastest in Ohio history and the country this year.

  6. The junior was state champion in the 200 Freestyle, finished runner-up in the 100 Freestyle, and was part of Hawken’s state title winning 400 Freestyle Relay team.

He ties a record by making 4 straight all-star teams. She was national champion in the 100 Freestyle, ranked 5th nationally in the 200 Freestyle, and her relay victory gives her 4 straight, also a record.
  3. Catherine Byrne (2)

  4. The junior was state champion in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke, and her national ranks in those events were 4th and 6th, respectively.
  5. Stephanie Zunich (1)

  6. The senior was state champion in the 100 Breaststroke and state runner-up in the 200 IM. Her 100 Breaststroke was the 8th fastest in the country this year.
  7. Katherine Creighton (3)

  8. The junior ties a record by winning the 500 Freestyle for the third consecutive year. A transfer and huge component to Hawken’s continued win streak, she was also runner-up in the 200 Freestyle and part of Hawken’s state title winning 400 Freestyle Relay.

  10. The sophomore was state champion in the 200 IM and runner-up in the 100 Breaststroke.

  2. The junior was state champion in the 100 Backstroke with a 56.03 time that set a new national record by a half-a-second. She was also 3rd in the 200 Freestyle.
  3. Sarah Weis (2)
    Sylvania Northview
  4. The senior was the only double-event winner this year, winning both the 100 Butterfly and 200 Freestyle. Her 100 Butterfly time of 55.20 was a new state record and 3rd best in the nation this year while her 200 Freestyle was 13th in the nation.
  5. Catherine Byrne (3)
    Solon
  6. Arguably the best overall swimmer in Ohio this year, the senior was state champion in the 50 Freestyle and finished 2nd in the 100 Backstroke. Her national ranks were 3rd and 4th, respectively, and she was part of Solon’s state record setting 200 Medley Relay team.
  7. Katherine Creighton (4)

  8. The senior set a new Ohio record by becoming the first swimmer to win the same event for 4 straight years after her 500 Freestyle victory. Her time of 4:49 was a new state record and the 9th best time in the nation this year. She also finished 2nd in the 200 Freestyle.

  2. The senior wins her 2nd straight Gold Star award after once again setting a national record in the 100 Backstroke with a 56.00. She was also state champion in the 200 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle Relay, leading Worthington to their first team title since 1981. White is just the 2nd OHSAA Girls’ swimmer to set multiple national records.

  6. The senior makes her 3rd all-star team after victories in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle. Her national rank in the 50 Freestyle was 3rd, giving her 3 straight top 8 national finishes in that event.
